Controller Not Turning On

The controller does not turn on when fully charged.

The Controller Was Disconnected During a Firmware Update

Your controller will need to be recovered. To do this, you will need to connect your controller to your system with a USB, as this will allow it to update.

Tip: If you’re having problems turning on your controller, we recommend removing the batteries for at least five minutes.

To recover the controller on a console, follow these three steps:

  • Step 1: On the console, navigate to Devices and Accessories.
  • Step 2: Find the ZD-N Plus Wireless Controller. It should say Update Required.
  • Step 3: Re-run the update.

If you’re still experiencing issues with your controller not turning on, you may have a faulty battery. If that’s the case, please follow this ''guide here.''

Wireless Not Connecting to System/Disconnecting

When the controller is in operation it will not connect to the console via wireless connection. If the controller does connect to the console, the wireless connection is frequently dropped.

Out of Range

It is wireless, but there is a limit on how far it can be from the console before it completely losses connection. Move closer to the console and see if it reconnects, if not try re-syncing the controller to the system.

Turned off Due To Inactivity

Controllers tend to have a time limit of sitting out and not beings used, before the controller turns off due to inactivity. It may need to be turned back on.

The Controller Isn’t Charged

Try plugging in the controller to the console’s charging cord. Make sure the light turns on to signify charging.

Directional Pad Is Responding Incorrectly Or Not At All

The directional pad (D-Pad) may be broken or not correctly calibrated.

Faulty Calibration

A common issue with directional pads within controllers is an error in calibration causing the buttons to register as different inputs than the user has given. To fix the issue of the directional pad mis-registering button presses, follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Disassemble the controller, removing the back panel.
  • Step 2: Navigate to the internal directional pad.
  • Step 3: Place a small section of folded tape upon the on the direction pad’s pivot to increase its height slightly.
  • Step 4: Reconstruct the controller.

The D-Pad Is Dirty

Dirt or small debris can often become lodged within the controller, causing the D-Pad buttons to stick. Similarly, a sticky liquid seeping into the controller’s internal chamber can cause this issue. To fix any issues with the D-Pad sticking and receiving constant feedback, follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Use a q-tip and rubbing alcohol to clean the outside and in between the creases of the d-pad. A toothpick may also be useful in reaching in between small creases.
  • Step 2: If this does not work, disassemble the controller and remove the back panel. Clean the buttons individually with rubbing alcohol.
  • Step 3: Place the buttons back in their original positions.
  • Step 4: Reconstruct the controller.

D-Pad Broken

Sometimes the controller’s directional pad will give no response when pushed. This could be caused by a lack of pressure applied to the buttons. To fix any issues with the directional pad not responding to user input, follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Disassemble the controller and remove the retaining clip.
  • Step 2: Bend the inner pieces of the retaining clip downward, adding pressure to the directional pad input.
  • Step 3: Carefully place the clip back in its original position.
  • Step 4: Reconstruct the controller.

Unfortunately, sometimes parts on the controller will break. If the above steps did not work in fixing your issue, follow ''this guide'' to fully replace the directional pad.

LB and RB Button Issues

After some use, your LB and/or RB button may experience malfunction.

Buttons Sticking

If the LB/RB buttons are sticking, you can follow these steps to resolve the issue.

  • Drip rubbing alcohol onto a cotton swab.
  • Gently rub on and underneath the desired button.
  • Allow controller to dry for five minutes.
  • Place the LB/RB buttons back into their original position.

If you are still experiencing issues after cleaning, you may have to replace the buttons. To do so, follow ''this guide''.

Rumble Motor

After some use, your rumble motor may experience malfunction.

Controller Does Not Vibrate

If your controller does not vibrate, you may need to check the controller settings to make sure vibration is enabled. To do this, follow these steps.

  • Step 1: Navigate to the HOME Menu and select System Settings.
  • Step 2: Select Controllers And Sensors.
  • Step 3: Toggle the Controller Vibration button. If it is already toggled, try turning it off and on again.

If the controller still does not vibrate, the rumble motors inside the controller grips may be broken.

If you’d like assistance with replacing the rumble motors, please follow ''this guide''.

Joystick Drift

When you take your thumbs or fingers off the joystick and the joystick still acts as if it is being moved. An example of this is your character moving even though you are not touching the joystick.

Calibration Issues

The controller has to be linked to the console via wireless, sometimes the calibration of the Joystick gets messed up. In order to fix this issue you must

  • Step 1: Go into the Settings on the console the controller is linked to.
  • Step 2: Select the Controller Settings option
  • Step 3: Select Calibration and follow the instructions given to re-calibrate your controller

Debris or Dirty Joystick

Over time, your controller might become dirty due to the amount of use. If the joystick gets covered in debris or becomes dirty, it might start drifting. In order to fix this issue you might have to

  • Wipe down the joystick with a safe cleaner
  • Use a can of compressed air to clean out the dust from the joystick base
  • Use a small scraper or paperclip to carefully remove larger debris

Worn- Down Contacts

The worst case scenario is that your joystick has worn-down contacts. Contacts are the small metal pieces incorporated into the joystick. These contacts tell the console what the joystick is doing. Once these contacts become worn down, the only option is to replace the affected joystick using ''this guide''.

Joystick Will Not Respond

When the Joystick is moved, there is no response.

Debris or Dirty Joystick

After heavy use of a controller, the joysticks might become dirty or covered in debris, this can cause issues for the controller, and cause the joystick to not respond. In order to address the problem you could;

  • Clean the controller using a safe cleaner
  • Use a chisel or small paperclip to remove larger debris
  • Use compressed air to remove dust from the base of the joystick

Worn-Down Contacts

After heavy use the contacts might become worn down. The contacts tell the console what the joystick on the controller is doing. After these become worn-down or broken, the only way to resolve the problem is to replace the joystick that is affected, this can be done using ''this guide''.
