Device not holding charge
The device will not turn on at all, or will not turn on a short time after it is removed from the charger.
Broken charger
If the device isn’t charging or holding charge the charger may be broken or damaged. When plugged in if the charging light doesn’t turn on then replace the charging cord.
Battery is broken/damaged
The device is charging or seems to be charging because the light turns on however when it is unplugged the laptop doesn’t work or only works for a short time. This indicates that the battery itself is damaged and should be replaced. HP Elitebook 2740p Battery Replacement
Distorted or no visuals on screen
The device powers on, but the monitor either displays nothing, or the image is distorted/discolored.
Display driver issues
If there are remaining problems with the screen and the cable and screen itself are not damaged then it may be a software issue. Check the computer's display drivers and make sure they are updated to the newest version.
Unseated cable
If the screen is not powering on and there is a blank black screen but there is no signs of physical damage on the screen then the cable may be disconnected or unseated and the computer should be taken apart and checked. Refer to the screen replacement guide to see where the visual cable is and how to check if it’s seated correctly.
Screen is broken
If the computer powers on and holds charge but there is either distorted images or no image on the screen then the screen may needs to be replaced. There may even be signs of physical damage or cracks on the screen itself.
Touchscreen unresponsive
The device functions normally, but the touch screen is not responsive, or takes no input at all.
Input settings are incorrect
Before more invasive or complicated diagnosis techniques are attempted, ensure that your device’s input settings are configured correctly to allow the touchscreen to act as an input device. These settings may be located either in the system tray or in the windows Device Manager.
Input driver issues
If you have already determined that the input settings are correct, your device may have outdated or incorrect hardware drivers. Ensure that your device’s drivers are up to date per the manufacturer's instructions.
Screen is broken

Slow performance
The device functions normally, but performs normal tasks poorly, or is overloaded by ordinary programs.
Background program configurations on start
Oftentimes, the cause of slow performance is an excessive number of background processes running on system startup. You can view processes currently running in the system performance monitor. Review the programs configured to run on startup in the Control Panel and disable any deemed unnecessary. If you are unsure what a program does, use Google to determine its function.
Virus/malware
One possible cause of poor performance is a virus/malware infection hogging your computer's resources. Download a reliable and trusted antivirus/antimalware software and run a scan. If no issues are found, you may have another issue. If issues are found, you can try to remove them yourself, or give your device to a professional for recovery and repair.
Inadequate/malfunctioning RAM
If you have already determined that you do not have a virus, you do not have excessive background programs running, and your drive is not damaged, another cause of poor performance is malfunctioning or inadequate quantity of ram. Memory in aging devices deteriorates over time, and modern applications use more memory now than ever. If, during normal operation you receive out of memory messages, try running the windows Memory Diagnostic Tool, and if the tool reports no errors, your memory is inadequate. Upgrade your ram. HDD or SSD damaged/slow
When he Hard Drive is reaching the end of its lifespan it will become slower and there will be an increase in corrupted data. You may even hear weird noises coming from the disk itself. Unable to connect to network
The device functions normally offline however it has trouble connecting to the internet through either a wired or wireless connection.
Connection settings are incorrect
if you are you not able to connect to a network a common problem for this is that your network settings. Make sure your settings match the requirements to find them ether check with your system administrator or it should be listed in your router's label.

Ethernet cord or port is damaged or used incorrectly
If you are using a wired connection and the internet is not working then there is a problem with either the cable or port. If the port looks damaged it may need to be fixed but otherwise check if the cord is fully clipped in and if it possible try another cord.
Network card not functional
