Computer Will Not Turn On

The laptop will not power on and shows no sign of turning on.

Battery is Dead

Make sure that the laptop is charged. Use the factory provided power cord and make sure it is securely inserted into the laptop’s charging port. There should be a light on the laptop and the cord to indicate charging.

Battery Will Not Charge

If the light on the adapter is switched on, make sure the adapter is connected to the laptop. If the laptop is powered only when the adapter is plugged in, regardless of the charging time, the battery is defective. Replace the battery using the battery replacement guide.

Charging Port is Loose/Broken

If the battery is charging intermittently or extremely slow, the charging port in the laptop may be loose. Replace the charging port using the DC Power jack replacement guide.

Non-Responsive Screen

The screen is not responding to any keys, trackpad, or touch inputs.

Frozen Screen

Power off the laptop by holding down the power button until the screen goes black and the laptop is shut off.

Trackpad Disabled

Make sure that the trackpad is not accidentally disabled. To do this, hold down the “Fn” key in the lower corner of the keyboard and then press “F5.” If the trackpad was disabled by accident, then this will re-enable it.

Touch Screen Disabled

To re-enable the touch screen for the laptop. Hold down the “Fn” and then press “F4”.

Broken Screen

If all other solutions have been attempted to fix the display of the screen then the whole screen will need to be replaced. Use the screen replacement guide

No Sound

There is no sound coming out of the speakers

Volume Too Low or Muted

Using the function keys, make sure the volume is not muted and is turned to a reasonable level. If that does not work, go into the control center in the settings and manually turn up the volume.

External Component Plugged In

Ensure that there is nothing plugged into the 3.5mm jack on the left side of the computer. This would cause the audio to channel through that line instead of the speakers.

Broken Speakers

If none of the above steps yielded results, the speakers will need to be replaced. Replace the speakers inside the computer.

Distorted Sound

There is sound coming out of the speakers but it doesn’t sound normal

Speakers Clogged With Dust/Dirt/Debris

Try using a pressurized air canister to blow out any dust or dirt that may be altering the sound coming out of the speakers.

Bad Speakers

Use an external speaker or set of headphones to ensure that the problem is isolated to the speakers. If the sound is the same, the problem might be the source (video, music file, etc.), also check the mixer settings in the control center and restore to factory defaults. If the audio in the external speakers is normal, the computer speakers will need to be replaced.

External Audio Devices Will Not Work

The speakers work just fine but nothing you plug into the audio jack plays any sound

Broken Device

Make sure that you check several other devices to make sure that the problem is not the device itself.

Obstructed Audio Jack

Using a flashlight, inspect the inside of the 3.5mm jack on the left side of the computer. If there is a foreign substance inside the jack, turn off the computer and use tweezers to remove the obstruction.

Broken 3.5mm Jack

If the 3.5mm jack on the side of the computer is cracked or loose, the port will need to be replaced.

Overheating

While the computer is on it gets very hot.

Clogged Fan

Try using a pressurized air canister to blow out any dust or dirt that may be stopping the fan from cooling.

Broken Fan

If the cooling fan is not clogged, it will need to be replaced. Use the cooling fan replacement guide.

Keyboard

One or more keys are stuck, missing, or broken.

Keys are Stuck

Make sure that nothing is in between or under the keys. Keys may need to be removed and cleaned to resolve this issue.

Keys Not Responding

Make sure that the keyboard is not locked, and ensure there is no external keyboard plugged in. If the keyboard still not responding, it will need to be replaced.

Keys Missing

Replacement keys will need to be installed.
