Background and Identification
The Inspiron 17 5758 is a 17-inch laptop released by Dell in 2015. It has a 4th or 5th-generation Intel Core processor inside complemented by a dedicated Nvidia graphics card. Dell offered the laptop with either a 1600x900 pixel display or a higher-end 1920x1080 option with support for touchscreen capability on some models. The chassis of the 5758 is made from plastic with a rubbery coating on the area around the keyboard and trackpad. The sides feature USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, an Ethernet jack, and a DVD reader/writer.
Internally, the laptop has two slots for memory expansion (up to 16 GB) and a hard drive bay that comes fitted from the factory with a standard 2.5-inch SATA drive. Both of these components are easily accessible behind a maintenance cover on the bottom of the device which is held in place by two Phillips screws. In fact, all the screws on this laptop are Phillips screws, so the internals are easy to access for any user. The battery is located at the back of the laptop and can be removed on the fly with a single latch. Dell has a service manual for this laptop with instructions on how to remove all components of the device.
To identify this laptop, look on the bottom for a sticker containing the model name “Inspiron 17 5758” or just “5758.” If you can’t find the model number, look for the service tag or service code instead. Either of these numbers serve as unique identifiers for your laptop and you can enter either on Dell’s support website to find your exact product name.
