Computer Won't Turn On

Laptop does not turn on even when plugged in.

Charger is Broken

Check to see if the indicator light on the Charger is lit when plugged into the wall. If the indicator light is on, the battery is most likely dead and can be replaced by following the steps in this Toshiba Portege R205-S209 Battery Replacement Guide. If the indicator light is not on, check the wall socket itself by plugging another device you know is working (like a night light) into the same wall socket. If that device turns on successfully, the laptop charger itself is dead and will need to be replaced.

Screen is Black

The computer is turned on but the screen remains black, leaving you unable to do anything.

Computer Must Be Restarted

This may be an operating system error. Try to power down and restart your computer. Press the power button until your computer shuts down completely. Unplug from the power source and remove the battery. Wait a few minutes then put the battery back in and connect your computer to its power source. Press the power button to turn it back on.

Keyboard is Not Working

When I press the keys there is no corresponding activity featured on the screen.

Keyboard not Installed Correctly

Check you keyboard to make sure that it is properly installed. If it is not awkwardly positioned or otherwise out of place, but is still not working, you may need to replace the keyboard. To do so, follow the steps provided in this Toshiba Portege R205-S209 Keyboard Replacement Guide.

Overheating

The computer gets hot, even when the air vent is not visibly obstructed.

Dirty Air Vent

Make sure the air vent is not filled with dust or other debris. If uncertain, you can use compressed air to clean out the air vent. Spray air into the vent to remove dust, dirt, or other obstructive material.

Computer Running Slowly

The computer becomes noticeably slow and takes a long time to load programs. It may also fail to respond.

Virus

Your computer might be infected with a virus. The presence of a virus may cause a computer to run slowly. You can access free anti-virus software and use it to locate and remove viruses.
