The touchpad does not respond to touch.

Hold down the 'Fn' key on the bottom left of the keyboard, and press the 'F7' key on the top row of the keyboard.

Open Windows Touchpad Settings and verify that the precision touchpad is turned on and that the settings for touchpad clicking and gestures are enabled.

Early production E3’s had issues with multi-touch on touchpads, consider updating the appropriate touchpad firmware from the product's support page here.

Open the laptop, referring to our touchpad replacement guide, to gain access to the back of the touchpad. Ensure that the strip of conductive tape connecting the touchpad housing and PCB is firmly adhered to the copper pad on the PCB.

If your touchpad seemingly cannot be fixed, please refer to our touchpad replacement guide to remove your old touchpad and install a new one in its place.

The keys on your keyboard do not respond when pressed.

There may be debris stuck under the keycaps. Turn off the computer and unplug the AC adapter. Use a can of compressed air to blow out any unwanted materials from under the keys.

This Microsoft Windows accessibility option ignores brief keystrokes by increasing the amount of time that a key must be pressed down before Windows acknowledges the keystroke.

Open up the Ease of Access Center by going to the Windows Start Menu to search "Ease of Access Center" and hitting 'Enter'. Under the heading "Explore all settings", click on "Make the keyboard easier to use". Now untick the checkbox corresponding to "Turn on Filter Keys".

The battery is not charging when plugged in using the power adapter.

Ensure that the power adapter is plugged in. If the power adapter is plugged into a surge protector or power strip, make sure the power strip is turned on. Verify that the power adapter’s connections with the wall and computer are solid and that the connectors are clean. Use a voltmeter to verify that the power adapter is outputting 19V. If not, consider purchasing a replacement adapter.

Unplug the AC power adapter.

Stick a thin metal rod (such as a bent paperclip) into the internal battery reset hole and hold down the button inside the hole for 4-5 seconds. The hole is on the bottom of the laptop, near the middle two screw holes.

The battery may be completely unusable. Consider purchasing a new battery and following our battery replacement guide on iFixit's website.

The laptop will not power on when the power button is pressed.

Charge the battery using the power adapter. After charging, try to turn on the laptop.

Unplug the AC power adapter. Locate the internal battery reset hole on the bottom of the laptop, near the two screw holes in the middle.

Stick a thin metal rod (such as a bent paperclip) into the internal battery reset hole and hold down the button inside the hole for 4-5 seconds. After 5 minutes, plug back in the AC power adapter and attempt to power on the computer.

Perform a power reset:

Unplug the AC adapter and remove the laptop battery using steps from our battery replacement guide.

Hold down the power button for 30 seconds, then release the power button. Reinsert the battery, plug in the AC power adapter, and attempt to turn on your laptop.

There is no sound coming from the speakers.

Unmute the speakers by hitting 'Fn + F8'.

Then verify that the volume is not low by accessing the Volume Mixer by double-clicking the audio icon in your taskbar. If it is low, then adjust accordingly.

Open the Start Menu and search "Sound", which should be a Control Panel category.

Under the "Playback" tab, select the "Speakers" and click the button that says "Set Default".
