Use the flathead screwdriver to take the end caps off of the top rail and set aside.

Take out the screw using the phillips screwdriver and slide the top rail off.

Using the needle nose pliers, push the cord lock clips in from the side and slide the cord lock out, removing the strings and setting the cord lock aside.
I would have to agree. It's a very simple concept, yet the clips on mine did not and would not simply press in so it could come out. Many, many cuss words. Throwing of pliers, flat head screwdrivers, whatever was within reach to throw. Walked away from it. Came back to it. Many, many times. Ended up breaking the top outer lip of the lock. Didn't affect the lock or how it sits, so I was ok with that.

Slide the bottom rail back onto the shade.

Push the bottom end caps back onto the rail.

Restring the cord lock by first picking up the strings coming out of the cord lock gap. Thread them through the side opening of the cord lock and out of the back opening.
-
Thread them back through the back opening and out of the front opening. Make sure to pass the strings through the black rectangular piece inside the cord lock.
-
Pull the strings tight so that the strings are only in the front and side openings.
-
-
-
Rehang the shade by pushing the shade up into the clips and sliding it towards the window.
-
Open the shade and cut the strings so the ends are halfway up the shade.
Clarification: open the shade really means to lower the shade, essentially covering the window, so that the cords are fully extended through the shade with the ends of the cords remaining exposed. Then cut the cord, if needed, at the halfway mark of your window height. If the new cords were measured alongside the old cord lengths, no cutting should be necessary.

Are the directions different for top down/bottom up shades?
Hi - thank you so much for this post. I followed it picture by picture and managed to restring my blind which was broken. I had been quoted NZ$150 to have it fixed so though - I may as well try to DIY and see how I went. I was nervous and had to go back and forth a few times with the steps but all in all it took me about an hour to do this job and I am so happy. String cost me NZ$12.99 and there’s plenty more to do another blind! Thank you again.
Where did you buy the replacement string?
Which is more durable, breaks less often or requires less frequent repair? Continuous cords or standard cords?
