No signs of life

My buddy will give me this computer if I can fix it. He raged and slammed the keyboard and the area to the right of the trackpad. When I plug it in it doesn’t show any charging lights and the power button doesn’t do anything. There are no signs of damage like the motherboard cracking or the battery puffing up. I already checked for any loose or unplugged connections and I power cycled the battery by unplugging it and plugging it back in. If anyone has any ideas I’d really appreciate some help.

Have your tried removing the battery and SSD and then plug it in to see if it comes on to a boot screen?

The impact is most likely affected the underside of the motherboard so there might be a fault on the other side. Are you able to remove it and check for damage on that side?

no boot screen. I was an idiot and didn’t plug the charger into the wall but now that it has power It has symptoms that could possibly be diagnosed. When I press the power button the keyboard lights up and the fans spool up for about 3 seconds before abruptly stopping. Nothing shows up on the screen. I will check underneath the board

Hi @colinbest

Try a full power refresh by removing the charger (if connected), disconnecting the battery from the motherboard (you don't have to remove it, just disconnect it) and then, fortunately for you, disconnecting the RTC coin cell battery from the motherboard (see image below). The battery is mounted on the underside of the motherboard but its cable is connected on the top side, so you don't have to remove the motherboard to disconnect it.

Next press and hold the power button operated for a full 30 seconds and release it.

Reconnect the RTC coin cell battery, reconnect the main battery, connect the charger, switch on and check.

If still no good then here's the schematic for the motherboard that may help. The power on voltage sequence chart is on p.5
