Issues with the power button not moving or turning on computer

The laptop won’t turn on

Try removing the panel and press on the main power button inside. If it works perfectly, then the issue is the external cover/panel. In this case, the panel will need to be replaced.

Operating Systems have options on how the laptop responds when the power button is pressed.

Open “Control Panel”, “All Control Panel Items”, “Power Options”, and click on “Choose what the power buttons do”. Choose or customize your power plan.

Laptop frequently overheats causing the computer to shut down

Your computer gets hot to a concerning degree when in use

The average temperature your computer should have

The average temperature of your computer should be around 130 degrees Fahrenheit during heavy usage. Due to the construction of the air intake vents and the type of processor being used in the laptop, this temperature is normal. If you are outside in a sunny environment, however, the computer may formally overheat and shut off until the system has cooled down.

Checking BIOS settings

Open your BIOS settings to see if you have turned on the Intel Turbo Boost. If yes, then your Core Frequency will be maxing out all of your core processors all of the time. Since this is not always needed for every single task, this is an issue that can lead to overheating. Turn off this feature to alleviate the processing power going into each task.

Audio quality issues

The sound on my computer is muffled, quiet, fuzzy, or completely not working.

Wrong level in your audio settings

First, go to the sound menu on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. Right click the sound icon to open the audio menu. Open the volume mixer to ensure that your computer is electronically registering that it is sending audio to the computer’s speakers.

Muffled audio

If your sound is muffled, it may because of debris being caught in the speaker grill. To clear away the debris, first, try blowing into the speaker grill. If this strategy does not work, you will have to remove the back panel and other components around the speaker grill to clear away blockage of the speaker screen.

Computer doesn’t connect to Wi-Fi

Your laptop does not want to connect to any WiFi networks

Wrong WiFi Settings on Laptop

First, make sure your WiFi is on by going to setting and selecting “Network & Internet”. There should be an indicator light on your laptop that shows the WiFi is on. Then, go to “Show available networks” and connect to the network you expect to see. If this does not work, you can also go to settings and make sure your airplane mode is off.

Delete all networks from your settings and reboot the laptop.

Run a wireless network report. The report is meant to give you information about what is causing the issue and it can redirect you to others who can help you.

Wireless router does not connect to device

If the laptop settings are not the issue, try moving about 3-9 feet away from the router.

Restart your wireless router. To do this you will need to follow these steps:

Unplug the router from its power source.

Wait around 30 seconds and replug the router to the power source.

Wait a few minutes until the router is completely on. You can tell when it is completely on by looking at the status lights.

Reconnect laptop to the corresponding WiFi network.
