If device randomly shuts off or freezes

First, unplug the power adapter, then press and hold down the power button on the laptop for at least 15 seconds. This will reset the battery’s software and could resolve the issue when turning your device back on. If this doesn’t work, hold down the pinhole reset button located on the bottom of the device using a small item such as a toothpick or a paperclip. If your device continues to randomly shut off go to your settings and find the additional power settings. From there click on change plan settings, and click on a new option such as balanced. This could help your device save power and cause it to stop randomly shutting off.

If your device repeatedly turns off or freezes during use, listen out for any unusual noises coming from the device, such as a clicking noise. The device fails to power on after pressing the power button

Ensure that your power adapter is solidly plugged into the device as well as an electrical outlet. If the device does not power on when the power adapter is plugged in, the power adapter may be faulty and need to be replaced. Consider purchasing a replacement power adapter.

If the device fails to power on, the internal battery may need to be reset. Unplug the power adapter and find the reset pinhole on the bottom of the device. Insert a small paper clip into the reset pinhole and hold it for 4 seconds. Let the device sit for 5 minutes with no power. Plug in the power adapter and power on the device.

Connect the device to the power adapter and attempt to charge the battery. If the device only powers on when connected to the power adapter, the battery may be faulty and need to be replaced with a new one. To replace your battery please follow the guide here.

Disc is unable to be read

Take out the disc and take a look at the underside. Clean the disc off with a microfiber cloth and see if there is any sort of scrape or scratch along the bottom of the CD or DVD. If there is, then this may be the issue. Try a different undamaged disc and if the issue persists and it is still unable to be read then move on to the next steps.

Screen display looks fuzzy or not in focus

Right-click your laptop’s screen and choose the “Display Settings” option. There you can change your display’s resolution to your needs, or choose the suggested screen resolution for your device.

Go to the settings on your device and go to the tab “Updates & Security.” Here you can see if you are currently running on the latest Windows version. If you are not on the latest version, try updating. This will check for any essential video drivers on your laptop, however they may not be the latest, so if issues persist, move onto the next step.

To ensure that your device has the latest video card drivers, install this Intel Driver & Support Assistant tool that will evaluate your current driver version and update them to any current versions available.

Laptop is frequently hot to the touch with fans running at maximum speeds

If your device is on a soft surface, such as on a blanket or a pillow, try moving to a solid surface, like a table or desk. Soft surfaces can sometimes lead to hot air being trapped in and around the device and cause insufficient cooling.

If you have multiple programs being open at once and your device feels very warm, right-click the task bar and select and open the Task Manager. Check and see if your CPU utilization exceeds 90% then try closing all running programs and shut down your device. Turn the laptop back on and if it doesn’t seem to be overheating anymore and the CPU utilization has lowered, then no further treatment should be necessary.

After shutting down your laptop, look or feel around your device to find what seem like air vents. Using a flashlight, look inside the vents to see if there is any dust or debris inside the vents or on the fans. If there is, then with a can of compressed air, aim the nozzle into the vents and give them a few short sprays. Be careful not to spray directly at the fans as this could cause them to spin too quickly and cause damage. This should get most, if not all, of the dust dislodged from your vents and should help your device cool down properly.
