When the laptop will not turn on after holding and pressing the power button.

Make sure that both the power cord and/ or the AC adapter are plugged into the computer and that the connection is solid, not loose fitting. Ensure that power cord is completely plugged into the AC adaptor. Try different electrical outlets, to ensure that the problem isn't from the power source. If using a third-party charger, either buy or borrow one to see if the problem lies with a defective charger. Try at least two different chargers.

Restart the computer and tap on the “F8” key 5-7 times while it’s powering on. The options box will pop up, and select SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING. Hit the ENTER key and let the laptop boot in safe mode. Update computer and drivers to the newest version and scan for any virus or corrupted program (and remove all the junk out of your laptop).

If the issue is with the battery; remove the battery from the laptop (if possible) and plug the laptop with the power cord provided by the manufacturer, powering on the laptop without the battery in it, to see if the problem lies with the battery. Put the battery back, ensuring that it is completely in, and press the power key for 10 seconds. If the laptop powers on, the battery could not be detected.

Thermal paste is heat conducting substance that transfers heat between electrical components and the computer cooling system. Thermal paste can degrade over time and lead to poor conduction between the processor and heat sink, and thus poor heat dissipation. If your systems have 2 memory slots remove the top ram stick then try to power on. If that doesn't work then swap the 2nd slot with the one you removed and try again. You may only have one port, and if that is the case remove the ram and the hard drive and see if it will power on. If it does you should receive a beep. If not try putting the ram in first, and then power on. Then try the hard drive by itself, and then power on.

The screen is still black and images cannot be seen, a different shade of black from when the device is off.

To see if the problem lies with the LCD Panel being cracked, turn off the laptop and hold the LCD at an angle that directly reflects a light source (like a flashlight) and check to see if the cracks that could be seen while the laptop is on is reflected.

Unplug the AC power adapter and flip the laptop so that the bottom is facing you. Locate the battery reset pinhole found in a small oval indentation, then proceed to insert a small paper clip into the pinhole. Hold the reset button for 4 seconds and let laptop sit for 5 minutes with no power. Connect the AC adapter and power on the system.

To test to see if the issue is because of the Hard Disk Drive (HDD), try uninstalling display drivers from device manager and restarting the device. To access the Device Manager press the WINDOWS key and perform a search for the Device Manager. Do NOT check the box that deletes the driver software. Once done, press the combination of keys "Windows + P" and select duplicate. If this does not work, it is a HDD issue.

Can't connect any chargers or devices through the USB, does not sense or connect.

First, try another USB device to see whether the problem is due to the USB or the laptop. Check with each of the different USB ports as well. If the other USBs also don't work, restart the laptop and use Device Manager to scan for hardware problems. Device Manager can be accessed by pressing the WINDOWS key and performing a search for the Device Manager. You can also try to disable and re-enable the USB controller under Device Manager. These steps eliminate the possibilities of temporary system issues. If the problem persists, investigate conditions of the USB port. Is there any physical abnormality? Is there any dirt and dust embedded in the port? If yes, clean the port using airflow from a vacuum cleaner. The last resort is to replace the broken USB hardware (FAKE LINK). The port is soldered in the board of the computer and the secondary printed circuit board (PCB) is very likely to be the root cause.

The laptop gets really hot after some time and it slows down.

Layers of dirt and dust may accumulate on the fans over time, this may weaken the laptop cooling system and slow the fans down. You might fix the internal cooling of the laptop by carefully cleaning the fans and heat sink of all dust and debris. Follow the link provided on how to access the fans and heat sink (FAKE LINK). You can use a vacuum cleaner for removing the dust. If you do not have a vacuum cleaner, you can use a cotton swab dipped in a drop of isopropyl alcohol. For your safety, make sure that the alcohol is completely evaporated before you turn your power on.

Remember to keep your laptop on a hard and flat surface in a cool area. Investing in a laptop cooling mat also helps.

The touch screen doesn't respond when I press it.

The capacitive touch screen on your laptop does not work with hard objects or pens. If you are wearing gloves, remove them. Only your bare hand or an appropriate capacitive touch stylus will be able to interact with the touchscreen.

A dirty touchscreen will not respond to hand interactions or act erratic when touched. The screen should be periodically cleaned with an appropriate display cleaning solution and microfiber cloth. (Do not use any household cleaning solvents, window cleaners, ammonia, or alcohol). Make sure to have the computer turned off and disconnected from power while cleaning the screen.

Periodically your laptop may freeze from heavy application use, software bugs, or possible malware. When the computer freezes, the touchscreen may be completely unresponsive. Try powering down the computer using the power icons on the computer. If this does not work, you may perform a forced shutdown by holding down the power button for 10 seconds. Then wait 1 minute before attempting to restart the computer.

The computer operating system may not be able to communicate with the touchscreen if incorrect or outdated drivers are installed. Update the drivers by visiting Acer’s website (FAKE LINK) to download the appropriate drivers and run their driver installation manager.

If all else fails, the digitizer may be improperly connected to the computer motherboard and the laptop may require disassembly to check this (FAKE LINK). The digitizer is the thin transparent layer of plastic found behind the glass screen, which reads when you touch the screen and transports it to the processing unit in order to accomplish what you want it to. The digitizer may otherwise be damaged and need replacement with the proper part. FAKE LINK

The laptop won't charge when plugged into an outlet.

Check that the AC adaptor indicator light is on. If not, the AC adapter may be plugged into a bad outlet. Try using a different outlet to see if the indicator light turns on. If the indicator light is on, make sure the output connector of the AC adapter is properly connected to the laptop. If the indicator light is on and the AC adaptor is properly connected, the issue may be a poor connection between the AC cable and charging port of the computer.

Check that the charging port on the laptop is clean of any dirt. If there appears to be residue, the charging port should be cleaned. Remove the battery. Clean port using a cotton swab and high concentration isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%). Allow port to dry completely before attempting to charge laptop.

The AC adaptor may be failing to output power. Try another working AC adapter of the same voltage (V) and equivalent or higher amperage (A) rating to see if the computer will start charging. If the battery still is not charging, the problem is not the AC adapter.

Is the battery hot? If so, the issue may be the battery overheating. An overheated battery protects itself from charging until it cools down. Shutdown laptop and disconnect all cables. Allow laptop to rest and cool for a few hours before attempting to charge.

Does the laptop charging indicator light turn on, but the battery does not appear to be gaining any charge? This may be due to the battery failing or expiring. Laptop batteries may expire in as little as 2-3 years after excessive use. Purchase a replacement battery - Part “FAKE LINK” and install.
