Replaced broken screen, bottom 1/3 of screen unresponsive

Prior to the repair, the iPod touch worked fine despite the multiple cracks in the screen that resulted from me dropping it face down in the parking lot. The repair went smoothly enough but when I powered it up,, the slide to unlock on the bottom wouldn't respond. I tried restarting, resetting and restoring to no avail. The top of the screen responds so I could slide the power off. The middle of the screen responds because I could hit snooze when the alarm went off this morning but not the bottom, so it is essentially locked. I successfully removed the newly installed digitizer/midsection screen to make sure that the ribbon cable was connected since the intructions didnt show the installtion process. Still, same result. From a few forum searchs, it looks like the screen might be faulty and the only option is to install a new screen. Has anyone else encountered this?

kimmys16, it has been my experience that if part of the touch screen does not work, it is because of a faulty digitizer. Of course, you do want to double check your work and make sure that your connections are properly seated, that all the connectors are clean and free of corrosion and that the cables are in straight and secure. My gut feeling is that you will need to try another digitizer. It is not uncommon to get one that is faulty....try to talk to the vendor where you bought yours from and see if they are going to exchange it. Good Luck

kimmys16 pay attention to what oldturkey03 has to say about iPods, he has a lot of experience with them. If I have a problem with one I look to his suggestions.

I'll check the connections once more. Maybe I got too happy with the canned air and sprayed something loose! LOL. I had pretty much came to that conclusion (faulty digitizer) but I was hoping by some miracle that there would be some back door fix that would avoid having to go thru all of this again. Sigh. Oh well back to the drawing board. If there is no warranty on this one, I'll look for a cheaper front panel assembly from a company people had good success with and try once more. I heard I could buy the assembly for about half of what I payed from here. Two attempts will still be cheaper than sending it back to Apple from what I hear. Thanks again for the advice!
