Hi,
The camera module may have been damaged by the fall or perhaps it is only a loose cable connection from the module to the board.
Here’s a video that shows how to replace the camera module in the phone. You can also use it to check if the module’s flex cables connection are OK or not.
Replacement camera modules (supplier example only, to show what the part may cost) are available online. Just search for Huawei P20 Pro camera module to get results for suppliers that suit you best.

if the camera module was damaged, the application would start and switch to selfie camera, right?
I don't know maybe not as you haven't mentioned that it does or not.
maybe the application needs all the cameras to work or at least be "seen" by the software before the app fully opens. That would be the most logical way to do it.
The camera software may check if there is communication between all the cameras and the systemboard and if OK then open the app for the user to be able to use the cameras
