How can I fix my audio jack?

So, I've been using my little SanDisk (Sansa Fuze) for almost 10 years now and it's been pretty reliable. Now, I've just had a problem with the audio jack port, like it doesn't want to connect right. If I held the headphone jack the right way or put pressure on it in a certain direction, I could get full sound out of it but now it seems like even that doesn't work and it cuts volume out of one ear and sounds like the audio has only treble and making it sound like it's in the background instead of right there in my ears. I would just like to know how I can possibly fix this as I love the system and the way it functions. It's become way too expensive to buy a replacement of the same model. I've tested different headphones and it doesn't change the problem. I would just like to know how I could either try to repair this myself or what kind of a place I could go to fix it. Thanks.

This video explains how to open the device (careful of the track wheel cable) and to push down on a certain piece to restore connectivity. Note: leave annotations on, as there are important notes to the effect of "do as I say, not as I do" to aid in your success.

This teardown can also provide a better view into the opening process: Disassembling SanDisk Sansa Fuze

If that doesn't work:

In Step 3 of the teardown, you can see where the headphone jack is on the motherboard. I imagine you can get a new audio jack and switch it out. It will involve saughtering.

You got this!

So, we disassembled it, taking off the controls and plastic cover and tried to play slightly with the jack. However this was no use and, like you mentioned, we may need a new jack all together. But, another issue has arisen. We can't get the ribbon cable back into the port and we don't know how to properly get it back in without damaging anything, as we also fear that we may have accidentally ruined the cable itself. Any advice on getting it back in there? Thanks for the help.

Here's a forum discussion on it: http://forums.sandisk.com/t5/Sansa-Fuze/...

Note that the links within the thread don't work, but the advice on the cable still goes.

Here's another thread about it: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/sho...

You can click in that box just before the question to navigate to the comments.

If I'd have seen all the comments about the ribbon cable before, I would've stressed being careful with it more. Just in case it's looking too grim, here's a link to the ebay options: http://www.ebay.com/bhp/sansa-fuze. If you do buy another one, I'd recommend getting one where you can use the parts interchangeably with the one you have now, so it's basically parting it out to yourself, if that makes sense.

Hope this helps.

Ok. This is actually helping me quite a bit. I think seeing the issues people had with the fragility of the cable, we might have damaged it. I'm thinking that maybe I need to salvage parts from another one to kind of Frankenstein the thing together. Thanks again for your assistance, I really appreciate it.

No problem! Best of luck :-)
