How do I get my sgs2 to switch on

The battery went dead on my samsung galaxy s2...I put my partners battery in and it switched on...went to the home screen and then switched off....now it wont turn on at all...the screen just stays black it wont charge either or bring up the charge symbol

Try a soft reset. Plug your phone in. Hold the power and volume down (maybe volume up) buttons down together until the phone reboots. It may take several seconds.
