When converting a 21 speed bike to electric can I still keep my original gear ratio?

Hi Bob. There are a few ways to convert your bike to electric. The most common one is to use a brushless hub motor for the front wheel of the bike, which leaves the rear gears, derailer and drivetrain untouched.
The other method is to replace the rear wheel hub with a custom hub motor / gear assembly that allows some pedal assist flexibility. This method is more complicated and usually more costly.
Having the hub motor in the front is the simplest and least destructive approach and is probably the most ideal. The idea is that if you put the hub motor in the front wheel, all you would need to do is install a motor controller and a battery somewhere on the bike. This can be done with simple metal brackets. So yes, you can keep all of your 21 gears and the gear ratio would not change.
