FYI: The original iPad & iPad2 can go up to iOS 9.x
Frankly, using anything newer than iOS 8 is pushing it! Time for a new iPad if you want any of the newer apps. Don't forget this is a 32bit CPU so most of the apps just won't run under it! Here's more on this: The state of the 64-bit transition in iOS, and what’s left to be done. Apple has already purged most of the older 32bit apps from the Apps Store! So you won't be able to even buy them.
