Ipad cover coming apart

The cover is coming apart where it flips over at the magnetic base. There is the hard edge that clings to the iPad and a flexible, rubber cover that seemed to be glued to it. Whatever was holding it together has worn away. I tried double-faced tape to reattach it, but it doesn't hold. Any suggestions on an adhesive to use to repair it?

About 1/3 of my cover hinge came detached off my cover. I applied a line of superglue (Gorilla brand, but most should work), and my cover is like new (well, except for some exterior scuffs).

Glad to read this works, thanks! I was tempted to do it on mine but have not dared yet to attempt it.

Did you have any trouble with making sure the detached part was properly stretched to its original position? Mine has gone off entirely and I am worried about glueing it back too loose.

por

Mine was only partially detached, so I had a clear guide for alignment. However, even if fully detached, the magnets should align both the main cover and the spline in the right place while gluing.

por

I used 4 rubber bands to align the cover with the screen, popped the magnet bar in place and it lined up very nicely.

I repaired mine with Loctite Vinyl, Fabric & Plastic Flexible Adhesive. It appears to be the same type of adhesive that apple used when manufacturing the cover. I used binder clips to hold the pieces together while the adhesive cured. Amazon, Home Depot & Meijers carry the adhesive.

@Mike Post did you replace the flexible strip between the cover and the magnetic strip, and if so, with what please?

It seems flimsy so I worry it will eventually tear if I reuse it.

Well, the point of iFixit is to fix things, not buy new ones. ;)

por

Ifixit don't usually do accessories repairs, they are pointless.

por

Anybody can just "get a new one". It's so easy you don't even have to type those words. The point of this forum is to FIX IT. Not buy a new one, anybody can buy a new one. But it's so friggin wasteful

por

Who told you fixing one-piece accessories was a good idea?

por

Well it's expensive, so why get a new one when there's a cheap, even temporary fix. Hence the name iFixit!

Fevibond does the job. You can use fevibond with the fabric glue used for clothes as well. Just tried yesterday and it worked.
