Sounds to me like your lcd is out could it be a verizon elipsis tab if so my wife works for vzw seen a lot of problems with this it's about 130 part fix if you fox it yourself

As long as you see your display working all u need is just to replace the digitizer

Take some rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush and gently scrub the LCD connection pins on the motherboard and the cable coming from the screen. I had the same problem as you, except my phone was dropped in a cup of beer. Works like a charm.
