Similar problem. After alarm time is reached, lights goes off, display goes to maximum brightness. Disconnecting or performing the reset didn't help. The problem turned out to be in a faulty speaker (its one thing that is switched on when alarm time is reached). Without disassembling the clock fully, its possible to disconnect the speaker (after taking the bottom off). Then one can continue without the speaker or going further and replacing it.
Quick fix: if your alarm starts behaving oddly (switched light off when alarm time reached), it could be the speaker problem. To replace steps above help reached the speaker. But there is also an option just to disconnect it, then first step is sufficient.
