Hello, I'm Ellen. I am a senior at Portland State University pursuing a degree in English. While I love writing in all forms, I have a particular interest in technical writing.

As an English major and Writing minor, I have taken many courses to learn about the wide range of technical writing and communication. It has been a joy to expand my notions about the field. Through these courses, I hope to find the area of TC I feel passionate about pursuing for a future job.

In terms of repair, I do not have a ton of experience on a professional level; however, I am thankful for the ifixit site because it has helped me figure out simple repairs in the past. Through my own frustrations with complicated manuals, I found the need for effective technical communication. Like machinery, writing is a puzzle. To complete the puzzle of communications, the writer has to figure out what order words and punctuation should go to best communicate the goal. This puzzle analogy is true for all genres of writing but is the most obvious with technical writing.

Writing is a huge passion of mine, so even outside of school and work, I can be found writing. I love to write non-fiction work and even compose music on the piano. When I am not writing or playing music, I love to go on hikes and explore the outdoors. The photo below was taken in Oregon on a drive to Columbia River Gorge.

As I learn more about the ifixit mission, I get more excited to join and add to the community of learning.
