Salut salut !

Bon, on est tous là pour à peu près la même chose : réparer des trucs. Il y a plein de raisons de réparer soi-même et en général quand on me lance sur le sujet je suis intarissable.

Avant j'essayais de comprendre comment les choses fonctionnaient mais je n'étais pas équipée pour démonter mes affaires, j'avais peur de faire des bêtises, de casser l'objet pour de bon, et je finissais toujours pas faire appel à quelqu'un de plus compétent que moi... quand je ne rachetais pas carrément l'objet en question.

Et puis j'ai commencé une formation pour réparer du gros électroménager (machines à laver, fours, etc.). Déclic. Réparer c'est utile, marrant, ça utilise tes mains et ton cerveau à la fois, ça coûte moins cher que racheter, c'est meilleur pour la planète... Et j'ai compris que cassé pour cassé, si je fais une bêtise ça sera toujours cassé, mais au moins j'aurai appris un truc. Bref, réparer c'est cool, on devrait apprendre ça à l'école.

Dans le même temps, j'ai découvert iFixit et j'avais envie de contribuer à la diffusion de ce message : "réparer, c'est cool". Comme je ne suis pas vraiment experte en quoi que ce soit mais que je parle anglais (et français, évidemment), j'ai commencé à traduire les tutos pour les mettre à disposition des Francophones du monde entier : 321 millions de personnes d'après francophonie.org. Pas mal. Du coup je fais ça, c'est pour ça que je suis là ! Et en plus j'apprends plein de trucs au passage.

Sinon ça c'est une bouilloire que j'ai réparée. Pas hyper funky mais je l'ai fait moi-même du coup j'en suis plutôt fière.

Well, we're all here for roughly the same reason : fix stuff. There are many reasons to fix things yourself and when I'm asked about it I usually talk a lot.

I used to try to understand how things worked but I wasn't equiped to dismantle my stuff, I was afraid to mess things up, to really break the thing I was trying to fix, and I always ended up asking someone more skilled... when I didn't give up and bought the thing in question again.

And then I started a training to repair washing machines and ovens and things like that. It clicked. Repairing is useful, funny, uses both your hands and your brain, costs less than buying new, is better for the planet... And I understood that once it is broken, if I mess it up it will still be broken but I will have learnt something. Anyway, repair is cool, we should learn it at school.

During the same period, I discovered iFixit and wanted to help spread this message : "repair is cool". Since I'm not really an expert in anything but I can speak English (and French, obviously), I started to translate repair guides to share the knowledge to Francophones around the world : 321 million people according to francophonie.org. Not bad. So that's what I do, that's why I'm here ! And doing so teaches me a lot of things.

If you wondered the photo is a kettle that I fixed. Not super funky, but I did it myself so I'm rather proud.
