  • Although the OnePlus Nord carries no official IP rating, it does use rubber connector gaskets found in the IP68-certified OnePlus 8 Pro—so it may have inherited some water and dust resistance.

  • Gaskets are cheap, but the actual IP testing and certification costs a pretty penny, which OnePlus decided to forego this time. Good on them for including a little protection, even if it's not advertised as such.

  • Remove two Phillips screws and the motherboard lifts out next, revealing some thermal paste on the back.

  • The thermal paste is plopped onto the graphite foil covering the chips, which have additional thermal paste of their own underneath. On the opposite side, the paste transfers heat into a copper element running behind the motherboard and down between the battery and display.

Hoewel de OnePlus Nord niet met een IP-rating is uitgerust, maakt het wel gebruik van rubberen aansluitpakkingen die we in de met een rating van IP68-uitgeruste OnePlus 8 Pro vinden—en dus kunnen we stellen dat het wel wat water- en stofdichtheid heeft geërfd.

Pakkingen zijn goedkoop, maar de daadwerkelijke IP-tests en -certificatie kosten wel een stevig centje, wat OnePlus dus heeft doen besluiten deze stap over te slaan. Het is tof dat ze alsnog om de waterdichtheid geven, zonder er al te veel mee te pronken.

Verwijder twee Phillips-schroeven en het moederbord komt uit het toestel zetten en legt wat thermische pasta aan de achterkant van het bord bloot.

De thermische pasta is op de grafieten folie, die over de chips heen is geplaatst, geplopt, terwijl de chips zelf ook weer hun eigen thermische pasta bevatten. Aan de overkant zorgt de pasta ervoor dat de warmte wordt verspreid in de richting van een koperen element dat achter het moederbord en tussen het scherm en de batterij loopt.
