Motorola Moto Z Play Speaker Replacement
Introdução
Vá para o passo 1If the speaker on your phone has a popping noise or has stopped working, you might need to replace it. Use this guide to replace the speaker on your Motorola Moto Z Play.
Before you begin, download the Rescue and Smart Assistant app to backup your device and diagnose whether your problem is software or hardware related.

If possible, drain the battery before disassembly. When the battery is charged, there's increased risk of a dangerous thermal event if the battery is overheated or damaged during repairs.
-
If your display is cracked, completely cover it with packing tape to contain the glass shards and avoid injury.
-
-
-
Prepare an iOpener and heat the front of the phone along its left edge for about two minutes, or until it's slightly too hot to touch. This will help soften the adhesive securing the display.
-
-
-
For reference, refer to the first image, showing the back of the display assembly (right) after it has been removed from the phone (left).
-
If you plan to re-use the display assembly, pay particular attention to the side edges. When slicing through the glue in this area, you must be careful to insert your tool less than 2 mm, or your tool will come in contact with the display panel and damage it.
-
Playing cards are a safer, but much slower, prying tool. The soft paper cards are less likely to damage the display panel, which is good news if you plan to reuse it.
-
-
-
Apply a suction cup to the display, near the middle of the left edge.
-
Pull up on the suction cup with firm, constant pressure to create a slight gap between the front panel and rear case.
-
This may require a significant amount of force, but you only need to open a very slight gap with the suction cup to insert your tool.
-
If you have trouble, apply more heat to further soften the adhesive, and try again. The adhesive cools very fast, so you may need to heat it repeatedly.
-
-
-
Insert your tool at the top right corner of the phone, and begin to slide it underneath the top bezel to separate the glue.
-
When your tool just passes the left edge of the earpiece speaker, stop.
-
Slide or roll your tool over the top of the flash module for the selfie camera to avoid damaging it.
-
-
-
While holding the display open, use the point of a spudger to pry up the locking tab on the fingerprint sensor cable's ZIF connector.
-
-
-
Remove the SIM card by firmly pressing the 0.8 SIM eject tool into the SIM card removal hole on the top left edge of the phone until the SIM slot pops out of the phone.
-
Remove the SIM card completely from the device
-
To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
Reminder: Use 3M VHB Double Sided Tape to stick the screen back onto the phone.

I wanted to replace it because it just wasn’t as loud as it used to be but when I put the new speaker in I noticed that it made the sound all distorted at more than about half volume so I took it out and put the old one back in and now it’s doing the same thing too!! Help!
I found out that that happens when the glass isn’t sealed tightly to the frame. In my case I messed up the adhesive on one of the corners when reinstalling the screen and it didn’t seal tightly. The glass being properly held down is what stops the distortion. When playing back without the screen sealed it will distort and this is normal.

thanks exactly the same thing happened to me, i replaced the Moto Z Play 1635-03 speaker and I got distortion just like you did, however I haven’t sealed it yet as the special glue hasn’t arrived yet (B-7000 glue) and pressing on the front screen which is loose certainly reduces the sounds distortion so I will have to get it right and adjust it accordingly when the glue arrives, making sure it sets at the optimal position.
Interesting my Moto Z Play 1635 is the dual sim version (can take two) and it was one of the first generation models of this phone, the strange this is that it has a thin copper coil wound at the BACK of the sealed speaker component with two lose ends (like a speaker coil); this is not something I see in all the Youtube speaker tear down videos Moto Z Play. I would the two loose copper coil ends and tucked them into the center of the coil; which sits there like a coil for the speaker component. Dunno if I am doing this right.
I recently replaced the battery and the screen and now the speaker isn't working. I get audible alerts but no sound on a call or from any apps. I do get sound on Bluetooth connected devices. What happened and what do I need to do to correct this?
