Jacket pockets are important because that is where we keep our belongings much of the time. However, they get holes in them sometimes or totally ripped out. This can lead to loss of property or inability to hold what we need on your person. If this has happened to you, follow our guide to repair your garment.

This guide will help you save money so you don't have to get someone to fix your jacket and you don't have to throw it out simply because it has a rip. In our step-by-step guide, there are instructions on how to create and replace a jacket pocket for your leather jacket.

Use the seam cutter to cut and remove the seams attaching the pocket to the jacket.
Make sure to cut the seams away from you to ensure that you don't end up stabbing yourself with the seam cutter.

Measure the pocket length and width using measuring tape and a measuring board.

Trace the pocket to create a sewing pattern on a piece of paper with a pen.
Draw out the length and width of the pocket to the side as a reference for its size.

Cut out the sewing pattern from the paper using scissors.
Leave an extra inch where the pocket opening should be when cutting out the pattern.

Pin the sewing pattern to the Fat Quarter 100% cotton fabric.
Leave a boarder of fabric around the sewing pattern to help make precise cuts.

Use sewing scissors to cut the fabric along the pattern. These pieces will be sewn together to form the pocket.
Repeat the process for the other side of the pocket.

Pin both fabrics together with their sides aligned exactly in the same direction as the sewing pattern.
Make sure that both sides where the pocket opening should be are aligned.
Use the sewing pattern as a reference for where the fabric should be laid out and pinned together.

Sew the fabric together with the Singer Stitch Sew Quick to form the pocket with a 10mm margin of space from the raw cut edges of the fabric.
Leave only the pocket opening unstitched by stopping a few centimeters before it, helping to create the pocket fold.
Use the pocket that you cut out of the jacket as a reference point for what the stitching should look like.
Any standard sewing machine can be used as an alternative to the Singer Stitch Sew Quick device.

Iron out the new pocket with the steam iron.
Make sure to place the iron in an upright position when not in use. Pay attention to the fabric you are ironing to avoid burning, and don't touch the face of the iron as it will burn you.

Insert the new pocket into the jacket.
The pocket opening should face the outside, where the previous pocket was ripped out.
The stitching and needlework of the pocket should face the outside, leaving the inside of the pocket clean without any noticeable threads when used.

Pin the new pocket to the jacket.
Flip back the pocket opening flaps to create a fold for the pocket opening and conceal the raw cut edges.

Stitch the new pocket onto the jacket using a leather needle and polyester thread.
Use a thimble to help push the needle through the fabric and leather.
Be careful when the needle is interweaving between the fabrics, as the needle can prick you, causing bleeding.
