Why won't my iMac turn on?

My 24" Intel iMac (A1225) won't turn on.

When I plug the iMac in, the left diagnostic LED (#1) on the logic board lights.

When I press the power button, LEDs 2 & 3 light, the optical drive makes a clicking sound, and that's it.

The fans do not spin, the hard drive does not spin, the Mac startup sound is not heard, the display does not light up.

I've tried the following with no change:

-Resetting the SMC

-Attaching an external monitor

-Reseating the RAM

-Replacing the RAM with other known good RAM

-Booting with video card removed

-Sent the logic board and video card to Powerbook Medic for repair, they said they did a reflow of the logic board pins at the video card interface, and the video chip on the video card was re-balled and reflowed.

-Powerbook Medic also claimed the power supply was fine, but I don't know that they actually tested it.

None of these things have made any difference and I'm running out of ideas.

Any suggestions?

For those that have this same problem, the power supply was the issue.

I purchased a replacement, installed it, and now everything works!

Use a multimeter and test the output of the power supply.

I'd love to test it, but do you have any idea what the pinout is? The fact that the LEDs are lighting tells me that the board is getting power, but I don't know what the proper voltages are.

3 possibilities:

1.bad power supply, (either try to repair by locating wrong component and replacing it , or but new psu for your model)

2.blown capacitors (look for any odd loking fatten caps on the board , replace if need be)

poor connection somewhere on the logic board.

good luck

I just wanted to concur. I had the same symptoms, led 1 on when plugged in. When power button pressed, I would only here the disc drive make a sound and nothing else. No fans, no HD, no monitor, no chime. The LEDs would light up on 1, 2, and 3. I removed the power supply and noticed one of the capacitors was bulging on the top. One of the chips seemed to be slightly charred on the other side. For my 24 inch a1225 emc 2211 I ordered a refurbished power supply from eBay for $140. The part number was PA-3241-02A1. I reinstalled and it booted right up. I used some duct tape to lift the glass off the computer sinc I didn't have suction cups. Just took a piece and placed it near the top and careful tugged on it till the glass released.

Did you see my comment above? The power supply was the issue despite the LEDs lighting. I bought a used one on eBay, popped it in, and the iMac started right up!

I had the exact same symptoms (3 LEDs lit as described along with the other symptoms) with my 24" iMac EMC 2211 and replacing the power supply fixed it.
