The film advance ratchet has been broken within the shaft. You could try advancing things using the motor drive connection on the bottom. Using a pair of needle nosed pliers insert the plier points into the slots and gently turn clockwise, the curtain should move slightly as you advance the mechanism. As the curtain was not fully retracted you may need more than the film advance shaft and ratchet.
