My screen keeps fading to white slowly is this fixable?

I have had this laptop for about 5 years now without any problems. Recently the screen has been turning negative and then slowly fading to white the weird part about this is that a good tap to the side of the screen will fix this. I was wondering if this is a fixable problem ? And if so where should I start?
