What version of Windows are you running?  Sounds like you may have a lot of programs running in the background.  Try turning off some of your background programs by clicking start and typing msconfig in the search bar in the start menu and then press enter.  Then click on the startup tab and disable all the programs that don't need to be running.  You may need to restart your computer.  It should help your computer start up quicker.

Also you may want to up your virtual memory as well.  To do that click start, right click computer, click properties, click advanced system settings, under performance click settings, click the advanced tab, and click change for virtual memory, uncheck "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives", and then click custom.  Enter a custom paging file size that is larger then what your computer is currently set to.  This should also help your computer to run faster as virtual memory is like adding ram to your computer except it uses your hard drive as ram.
