Not the same model - is my laptop look okay?

Yes, I did it: spilled tea on my laptop :(. Not happy about it but it happened.

I took the laptop apart and from what I can tell, it may be fine. Anyone here see anything I need to worry about?

@nick - Sorry guy I don’t know Dell’s well enough to help you.

@danj Worth a shot. I can't see anything but I'm fully expecting the keyboard to die. I did rest it on a towel with the battery disconnected, but I've never seen a keyboard survive liquid. Ugh, it isn’t cheap but I found the part number.

por

@nick I would expect the keyboard having taken the brunt of this. I would definitely use some isopropyl alcohol and clean most of it. I'd pay particular attention to the antenna, power connections as well as your display connector. Anything after that, let mother Fortuna shine on you ;-)

@oldturkey03 The motherboard was totally dry, even the connectors. The battery wasn't splashed, so I'm not even concerned. I'm a little frustrated due to the cost to replace the keyboard since you need the upper case, but I'm glad the motherboard at least survived and I at least can say the laptop is repairable, something many people here can't claim. I think I got lucky because I had my toolkit on hand, so I could take it apart to quickly check it and kill power until I could verify it's safe to run.

On one hand, I wish Dell made the keyboard modular, but then I'd probably be in the Dell Outlet for another one since I like the i14 7000. I'd want another Ryzen unit, even if it had 11.

Sadly in the process of cleaning it, it took some damage to the keyboard I can't easily fix without replacing it.

Hi @nick

Looks good to me although I spotted something in the last image but my eyes are crap anyway. Still worth look even if only to confirm about my eyes. ;-)

That wasn't liquid when I checked but the issue is I can't be too sure all the time right now... Yeah, it wasn't but I flicked it off the port as a precaution.

@nick

Whatever it is it shouldn't be there

por

@jayeff At this point I'm hoping I can economically save this thing... I can get one from the Outlet with the same spec for $550 or so, even with my disdain for 11. Ugh, I feel like an idiot right now. Don't take the fact I checked personally, I was trying to see what I was up against repair wise knowing the palmrest is at least $150-200, and bottom covers are $25 new. Yes it's a new laptop but I don't feel so bad about replacing it with a refurbished laptop at the same time since technically it was also used at one point too. It's not great for the planet but it's better then buying new.

Why why why did this have to happen to me?

por

@nick

Accidents happen and you can't think of everything beforehand e.g. no liquids near electronics etc. If you did every time, you wouldn't be human ;-)

por

@jayeff I'm buying the accidental coverage if I buy a new one from Dell Outlet. I have NEVER had issues before and the stupid bottle just fell.

I hope me saying I might buy a refurb from Dell myself isn't a bad word here.
