My stuff keeps turning on

I have been trying to let it dry since yesterday because I spilt water on it but after. I took pictures to see if there was corrosion it's been turning on by itself. Anyone know the cause of this?

Hi @generalramm ,

Just verifying that you have correctly reassembled the laptop and when you turn it on etc and then have correctly shut it down that it turns itself on again at some point without you touching it, is this correct?

When it turns itself on does it behave normally until you shut it down again or does it act differently?

Are you sure that there is no corrosion.

Check the cable connection on the power button board (see p.57 of the maintenance and service manual) to make sure that there is no corrosion in the connector.

You could try turning off the laptop and if it takes a little while before it turns itself on, disconnect the power button board cable and see if it then turns itself on. If not then the problem may be on the button board.

You have to start somewhere with eliminating what the cause may be if you suspect corrosion and none is evident.

Be careful when working inside the laptop because the motherboard has power on it even if the laptop is off so don't slip if using tools etc and try not to touch anything that you shouldn't.

I took pictures of my stuff earlier and no one said there was any corrosion. It behaves normally when it cuts on tho the only thing that I can see Is wrong with the computer that the screen is black whenever it's on. As well as the computer cutting on at random times

You never mentioned before about no display.

Does the display work when you turn it on?

If not try shining a torch at an angle close to the screen when the laptop is on and check for images. They will be very faint if they are there so trying this in a darkened room may help.

If there are images then there is a backlight problem.

If the laptop was on when water was spilled onto it the backlight fuse may have blown on the motherboard.

You would need the schematics for the motherboard to know where it is, but usually is it a smd type fuse mounted on the motherboard close to the video cable connector.
