Issues with the volume

Hi,

I know I already submitted a question about my tablet, but there's another issue I've had since I got it. The volume works just fine, it'll go up and down with no problem, but it my tablet won't play any sound unless you have earbuds, earphones, or a speaker plugged in. It drives my absolutely insane and I have no idea what's going on! Please help me!

Hi,

How long have you had the tablet?

It seems as though you may either have a faulty main speaker, faulty motherboard or faulty earphones socket.

Here is a link to the warranty provisions for your tablet. If you have had the tablet for more than 90 days in the USA or 24/12 months in Europe then your tablet is no longer covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

If you have had it for less than this length of time, depending on your location, I suggest that you verify the purchase date and then consult the documentation in the link provided as to what you have to do to obtain a warranty repair or replacement.

If your tablet is no longer under warranty then here is a link to the Ifixit guide on how gain access to the inside of your tablet to investigate the possible cause of your problem.

It may be that the internal speaker is faulty or has a loose connection.

It may be that the earphone socket is faulty. When you plug earphones into the socket, depending on the type of socket (and I don't know which sort you have) the plug either breaks a set of contacts that are within the socket which disconnects the main speaker and transfers the audio to the earphones OR there is a single contact within the socket that when you plug in earphones 'tells' the audio controller to switch the audio away from the main speaker and onto the earphones. In either case this may be the problem.

The other possibility is that there is a problem with the motherboard not sending the audio to the main speakers in the case of the earphone socket being of the second type described above.

In any event regardless of the actual problem, the tablet will need to be opened for the fault to be diagnosed and repaired.

Hopefully this is of some help.

It's been just about 3 months since I've had it, so I'm sure the warranty is expired. You see, my mother got this for me real cheap at a yardsale... And I gave no idea how long the person before me has had it, or what they may have done to it. Though this is probably the reason they sold it. I'm not really skilled at taking apart and fixing devices, so I'll have to find a professional to do it for me... Do you know where I could take it to get it fixed that isn't terribly expensive? I live in Maine (if that helps...)

Hi,

Try any reputable, professional computer / mobile phone repair service and ask for a quote,

Unfortunately I suspect that you may find that the repair will cost more than what the tablet is worth.

If so use the guide in the link above have an attempt at fixing it yourself. Take your time about it. Do not get frustrated if it takes a bit longer or if it isn't going as described. Take a deep breath, slow down, think it through and it will happen AND you will also get the satisfaction of fixing it yourself. Once you have it open and you cannot seem to find out what is wrong come back to this website and post some close up pictures of the inside of the tablet and someone will help you to find the problem.
