Water damage LCD not displaying

So i dropped my phone in the toilet, and it took me about 5 seconds to figure it out and remove it, stupidly i thought iphones were water proof after watching ytube videos of them being fin after 30 mins of being submerged, so i contie using it for an hour o listening to music, then when i got back i charged it and at some point there it died and would not turn back on.

so i left it to dry for a day and a half, and now i can turn it on, but when i try to restore it on itunes i get error code 1, and the LCD is blank, i checked it in pitch black conditions to see if it was the backlight, but i still cant see anything, any ideas, would replacing the screen fix it?

John Price, first off it's water damaged so no Apple will not repair/replace it for free. Second, as with any other liquid immersed device you need to follow a few steps for proper trouble shooting.

stop continuing to try to charge, sync or otherwise use your phone. This potentially can make a bad situation worse.

The very first step I would take is to disassemble your phone. Use this teardown to help you disassemble your phone. Take a careful and close look at all components and connectors. Truly assess the damage. Look for major corrosion, evaluate the pins in the connectors etc,. Take a look at all connectors as well as cable ends. You will have to remove all the EMI shields. If you do not remove the shields, you are not cleaning the board. Once you got the gross contamination cleaned, use 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and clean your parts some more. For a proper cleaning, use this guide. It was written for a Apple iPhone 3G but it is still pertinent to your phone as well. I can not stress the importance of a good cleaning enough, so do it over and over while replacing the alcohol after each cleaning. Do not use compressed air for the cleaning since that can drive liquid as well as corrosion particles into areas that will cause trouble later on. Do not use drinking water, if you need to use water, use sterile water. Also, you do not need to leave it to dry for a day. Isopropyl alcohol in the higher concentration will evaporate quickly and dissipate the water. The importance here is the cleaning. It would of course be best to get it professionally cleaned Do not forget to replace the battery. This is a must and not an option. It will fail if you do not take care of it now. After that reassemble your phone and re-evaluate. For as long as you have not cleaned your board and replaced the battery, everything is just a guess. Keep in mind that water damage is the hardest to troubleshoot and to repair. Hope this helps, good luck.

is 100% too strong? and can i replace the battery with an iphone 6 one?

100% is perfect. As for the battery, I'd stick with one that is meant for your model.

Error code 1 is usually about the cord that you're using. My guess, in this case, is the Lightning dock. If the screen is blank, but it's still on, you can do a force restore. If the display assembly is indeed damaged, you could replace it. I wouldn't update to a new iOS though...

You may have difficulty finding new parts, so soon, for this phone. Maybe need to wait another month?

I would open it and make sure its completely dry of any liquid, then continue with troubleshooting. Continuing to use it with potential liquid in it, could further damage it.

He's actually totally right. I guess I didn't think of that. Clean the logic board and the sockets with isopropyl alcohol. I would use 90 proof

once i get the alcohol do i just pour it on a cloth and wipe the board?

por

You technically should disassemble the phone. Remove the logic board, battery, etc, and clean throughly. I would also make sure all liquid is gone off connectors, etc. This is good that you caught this sooner, than later. While the liquid is still wet, its much easier to clean, opposed to when its dried, and caused corrosion.

Yeah. Take the board out, then pour the isopropyl onto a clean toothbrush, then use the toothbrush to clean the board

Open the phone clean with IPA look at the water indicators replace them and go straight to the Apple store. If done correctly they shouldn't know it has touched water/won't check deep enough to notice.

However they will know that it was opened if this is a 6S

Didn't realise it was a 6S.... %#*@, that sucks.

por

how will they know for 6s and not 6?

The phone is already water damaged. He is going to have to pay no matter what. Unless he has Apple Care.
