Grinder will not turn-on
There is no power allowing the grinder to turn-on.
Cut or damaged power cord
The cord connecting the grinder to a power source has been cut or damaged to the point where it is incapable of use. During use, the cord can be damaged in multiple incidents such as melted by heat or being physically cut through by sharp objects. To see how to replace the cut or damaged power cord, see our guide here.
Brush spring replacement
The brush spring pushes the brush against the armature. The spring can lose its tensioning properties due to overheat. To see how to replace this part click here.
Grinder bit wobbles and is uneven
The grinder bit to this tool functions unevenly.
Not tightened properly
It is required to use the proper wrench and tool in order to tighten down the grinder bit. During heavy use, it is common for the screws the hold the bit in place to become loose and may need to be tightened again. If the bit is tightened properly and still functioning unevenly, it is time to replace the grinder bit.
Worn-out disc guard spring
There is a spring that holds the safety guard in place. This spring is small and can be damaged to where it will knock the safety guard out of place. When this happens, it can lead to grinding unevenly because the grinder bit is hitting the safety guide. The guide to replace this spring can be found here.
Grinder smokes and sparks
Smoke and sparks are coming from the motor housing during use of the grinder.
Old or damaged carbon brushes
During use, these brushes can become damaged by many causes. The brush may be bent or chipped due to damage. Over time, the carbon brushes can wear down to the point of not functioning and will need to be replaced. See our brush replacement page on how to change the carbon brushes.
Debris is in an unclean motor housing
The main housing that contains the motor and other internal components in has a build-up of dirt and debris from use. It is recommended the housing to be cleaned regularly to prevent smoke or sparks from the grinder. A step-by-step guide to regularly clean the motor housing is provided.
Grinder is making abnormal noise
The grinder will make an unfamiliar noise to the user during application.
Not enough cool down time during use
It is important for the user to apply appropriate pressure when grinding hard or difficult surfaces to avoid problems with the grinder. Also allow for cool down time during use. The abnormal noise usually means there is an internal problem with the grinder. If the user is suspicious of an internal problem, see our guide of how to get to the internal components of the grinder.
Overloaded armature
Some times the armature can get overloaded. If this happens the insulation can melt. See the armature replacement guide to take care of this problem.
Grinder switch is broken
The switch to turn the grinder on and off is inoperable.
Broken locking mechanism
The grinder has a locking mechanism that will stay in place when the user turns it on and off. Sometimes these plastic pieces can break causing the mechanism to not function properly. The switch can be replaced, and a provided guide on how to do so is shown here.
