Introdução

If you are having issues with the Moto Z2's battery, use this guide to replace it.

If your battery is swollen, take appropriate precautions.

  1. Place the phone on a flat surface with the screen facing up.

    • Pry open part of the screen by pulling the tool and the screen toward you.

    • You may be required to use a heating element, such as the iOpener, to heat and loosen the adhesive underneath before attempting to pry it open.

  2. Wedge the plastic opening tool between the gap created by separating the screen and body of the phone in the right hand corner to hold it open. Insert the nylon spudger into the lower left corner of the screen and pry the screen toward you. Continue to insert the plastic opening and spudger tools around the phone, and pry open the screen until it is fully separated from the device.

    • Continue to insert the plastic opening and spudger tools around the phone, and pry open the screen until it is fully separated from the device.

    • Remove the screen gently and slowly as the screen may crack otherwise.

  5. Insert the black spudger under the lock of the latch connecting the black ribbon of the screen to the phone body. Pull up on the lock to unlock the latch.

    • Separate the black ribbon from the latch by pulling gently to the left.

    • Separate the camera from the board by pulling gently towards the bottom of the phone.

  11. Wedge the plastic opening tool underneath the motherboard near the battery and use the flat end of the spudger to create a gap. Gradually make this gap bigger so that  the area is still loose when you remove the spudger. You may want to use a thinner prying tool instead of the plastic opening tool  to make this step easier.

  12. Loosen the motherboard in the area between the camera and battery by gently wedging the flat end of the spudger to create a gap such that the area is loose when the spudger is removed.

  13. Insert the flat end of the nylon spudger underneath the edge of the phone near the camera. Gently pry the motherboard from the phone until it is raised enough to put a finger between it and the phone. With your fingers, gently pry the rest of the motherboard up from the phone.
    • Insert the flat end of the nylon spudger underneath the edge of the phone near the camera.

    • When using your fingers to remove the motherboard completely, be extremely careful, as you can easily break the motherboard.

  14. After you have removed the motherboard, only the battery should remain on the device's body.

can i ask why we have to remove everything? the battery is right there with the connector exposed

I was wondering the same thing. I just removed only the battery and now my screen don’t work. All I get is a vibration that the battery is working….

We will investigate this guide to see if it needs to be updated.

In the meanwhile, it sounds like your phone is starting up, but the display is not powering on. Double check the display connector and make sure it is properly seated to the phone.
