Background & Identification
Huawei is a Chinese technology company primarily known for their line of smartphones and their telecommunications equipment. They released their first smartphone in 2004, the C300, and went on to create the Ascend series with the Ascend P1 S in 2012. They dropped the “Ascend” moniker for their flagship phones in 2015 to switch to the P series with the release of the P8.
As of 2020, Huawei has two lines of flagship phones with the P series and Mate series. According to the CEO of Huawei, Gang He, the difference between these two lines lies in the customer they appeal to, with the Mate series possessing the latest and greatest in processor technology and screen quality, while the P series focuses on the camera tech and design ascetics that a more style focused consumer might appreciate.
Among the various other budget and entry level smartphone lines such as the G series, Y series, Nova, and Enjoy, Huawei also has a subsidiary company, Honor. Honor operates on an online only model, providing devices at a lower cost as a result.
Huawei has exited the US market as of 2019, but devices released prior to their exit continue to function.
