What is the status of the Realtek sound controller as shown in Device Manager?

To get to Device Manager in Win10/Win11 press the Win key + x key (both together) and click on the Device Manager link in the menu box that opens.

In Device Manager scroll down to Sound, video and game controllers and click on the > symbol to expand the list,

If there's a red cross next to the Realtek audio device entry, right click on the entry → Enable this device and follow the prompts and then check if it works OK.

If there's a yellow exclamation mark next to the Realtek audio device entry, right click on the entry → Update drivers and follow the prompts. You need to be online for this to work. Alternatively, download and install the drivers from here

If there's no error symbol next to the Realtek entry, right click on the entry → Properties → General tab → Device status box in the centre of the page and check what it says e.g. This device is working properly or an error message.
