Hi Kay,

I didn't have any more luck than you did finding any authoritative information, in particular from Sony itself, regarding those blink codes. Well, I did find an answer on the Sony forums for someone whose TV was blinking four times, but that doesn't really help us, does it?

What I did run across was a YouTube video of a repairman who got in a TV like yours with that same blink code. He seemed to be saying that the code is supposed to indicate a problem with the main board, but in his experience he felt that the sounds it was making was what you hear when there's an overcurrent condition. Apparently overcurrent issues are generally caused by the backlight LEDs, and sure enough when he opened up the TV he found two LEDs that were burnt out. Replacing them appears to have fixed the problem, although on the one he had there were a couple of pins on one IC that he felt the solder wasn't good on so he resoldered them.

The upshot appears to be that a backlight issue can cause the blink code you're seeing and repairing or replacing the backlight LEDs should hopefully fix the problem. If it was me, I would probably opt to replace the full set of backlights; in my thinking if two of them have gone out, how long will it be before more of them go out? Rather than taking a chance on having to open the set back up and do the job again, I would just replace them all; I strongly suspect it's not going to be all that much more expensive to do so.
