iPod mini: Will the batteries be restocked? Possible Alternatives?

Trying to find a replacement battery for an ipod mini that i can trust. I was checking digikey because I don't trust Amazon very much. Any help would be appreciated. These are the ones I found that look kinda right.

Hi @ravenna

The first link you posted doesn't work.

Try searching for ec003 battery (examples only) to find suppliers that suit you best.

This is the model number of the battery used in the iPod mini.

Here's the ifixit iPod Mini Battery Replacement guide that may help.

As to recommendations for suppliers, ifixit discourages this (except if they're for very hard to find parts) as it leads to an increase in spam being posted.

When you find a supplier (or two or three) that suit, check the reviews online regarding their service, returns policy, guarantee etc and then use your instincts as to which one you prefer to deal with.

well they were pretty much the same battery. Will it work in the ipod mini though? Is there going to be a restock on ifixit?

@ravenna

Not really.

Looking at the dimensions in the datasheet of the battery you linked and the dimensions of the EC003 battery it's too big. There's not enough space for it in the case. It won't fit.

As for ifixit restocking it anytime soon, I don't know you'd have to ask them

do you know what the white whire is for? most of the batteries have only the ground and power. do i need the white wire?

@ravenna

The 3rd wire is usually used for temp monitoring by the battery management circuit on the motherboard.

If it isn't there the battery won't be charged properly (if at all) because the battery management circuit doesn't know if it safe to continue (or even start) to do so i.e. is it too hot (temp wise) to charge or not, it doesn't know so it probably won't.

You could try a battery that has the correct voltage, dimension specifications but no 3rd wire and see but I strongly recommend that if it does start to charge OK that you don't leave it unsupervised whilst it is charging and don't let it get too hot.

thank you. i was finding it hard to find good resources.
