Brightly colored (blue, purple, pink, orange) vertical strips appear about half the time when I snap a picture and also in the view mode of that same picture. It has done this previously, and then starting working normally. Now it is doing it more.

@anniecat if it is on the actual picture as well as the viewfinder, it is the image sensor that is giving you trouble. If they are only on the LCD but not the image, it is your LCD.
Use something like this video or this (incomplete) guide right here. Step 11 shows the sensor flex on the L thumb :-)
