Pontiac Montana not charging

2002 Pontiac Montana 3.4

Alternator was replaced with a new one not rebuilt, but still has same problem, new alternator was checked and it's okay. Check engine light is not on, and when code checker is plunged into computer it does not come on. How do you check ECM computer when code checker won't even come on?

@jkeef make sure that you have a good battery and clean the battery contacts. Check your ground wires and clear of all corrosion. This "when code checker is plunged into computer it does not come on", sounds like a bad fuse. Check for power on your OBD2 connector. It is commonly fused with the cigarette lighter outlet. IF your OBD2 should get power, but still not work, then the issue is your ECM not the OBD.

Check the fusible link as well as the rest of the wiring as well as the fuses as outlined in the wiring diagram.

Here is what I have done so far. On this 2002 Pontiac Montana, I installed a new alternator and battery even replaced the ECM computer, all relays and fuses are good checked all wiring and grounds, but it's still not charging and all lights are so dim you can't see to drive at night, I don't know what else to do with it.

What is the voltage measurement across the battery terminals with the engine running?

It should measure 13.8V -14.5V DC.

If no good measure the voltage output from the alternator - see the diagram above for how the battery is charged B+ terminal on alternator → red wire → fuseable link → starter motor terminal → +ve battery terminal.

Be safety aware - ensure that the transmission is in park (AT) or neutral (MT) and that the parking brake is firmly applied as the engine is running.

@jameslloyd98697 you said ECM but I suppose that you are referring to the PCM, correct? You did check the Alt sense fuse in the fuse box under the hood correct?
