Computer does not detect the Wifi/Bluetooth module

Hello, I have an issue with Lenovo ThinkPad T480s Wifi and Bluetooth.

The computer does not detect the Wifi/Bluetooth module, there is nothing under Device Manager even when I turn the "Show hidden devices" option. The computer has a fresh installation of Windows 11.

What I have tried so far:

  • Manually install all of the necessary drivers
  • Reset BIOS by disconnecting the battery and CMOS (Wifi is enabled in BIOS)
  • Move the Wifi/Bluetooth module to another T480s that also has a fresh installation of Windows 11 (It works fine on another computer)

I'm not sure what other steps I could take to diagnose the issue, do I just assume there is an issue with the motherboard? Thanks for any help.

Update (03/17/23)

Thanks to @jayeff I was able to identify the issue. I was about to check the voltage as it was suggested but found that there were missing multiple components so the wifi module was definitely not getting 3.3v. Since I don't do soldering I will bring it to the repair shop.

@nokia3310 Hi. Were you (or the repair shop) able to fix the issue with the PD9 diode? For some reason, I'm having the same problem with the same laptop model. I don't even understand how it happened in the first place (my PD9 diode is interrupted in the middle, similar to yours).

@milanzazrivec I decided to sell it as a laptop with defect instead of bringing it to the repair shop, since repair shops in my area charge a lot for soldering jobs.

Hi @nokia3310

Try running the Lenovo troubleshooter (click on Network) and check what it shows.

Also maybe check what BIOS version is installed (for latest version, click on Operating System > Win 11 64-bit) and also check what the BIOS version is in the other laptop where the WiFi card works OK with Win 11.

Was the WiFi working OK in the laptop, before upgrading to Win 11?

You could always check if there is 3.3V DC on pin 2 & pin 4 of the WiFi M.2 socket. No power = no WiFi.

Here's an image from the schematic showing the WLAN M.2 socket wiring and the source of the WLAN power supply VCC3WLAN, component PQ15

For that many components to be missing, it seems very specific to not wanting WiFi/BT capability in the laptop for some reason,

first make sure airplane mode is off then if it is try uninstalling the old drivers n download new and updated ones. sometimes your computer might just want you to update your software

This is not helpful, since I specified that it's a fresh installation of Windows and I already tried installing all of the necessary drivers manually. As for airplane mode, since the computer does not detect Wifi/Bluetooth module the Airplane mode function is greyed out and you cannot click it. Also, when I was testing Wifi/Bluetooth module, I moved it to another T480s that has exactly the same setup - a fresh installation of Windows 11. And it worked there, indicating that this couldn't be a software/driver/module issue.

Well for Bluetooth you can do select Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices > Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth. Choose the device and follow additional instructions if they appear, then select Done.

And if this not working than check for the outdated driver as well because some time an outdated driver can also cause these kind of issue in you system.

And for wifi related issue you should check out this it will be very helpful for you: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...
