Is the Battery or Motherboard bad on my Samsung S7 Tablet

Had chlorine water damage originally, replaced LCD and digitizer to no avail. Also, have replaced LCD flex cable and currently waiting on new keyboard flex cable. But it occurred to me that it may be the battery is no good, or perhaps the motherboard was short-circuited after I tried charging the tablet, when screen didnt come on after installing LCD & digitizer.. The back of tablet became really hot really quick so I disconnected it. Did I damage battery or Motherboard when this happened? I have no easy way of testing either part to be sure. Battery seems good on the outside, no obvious signs of damage, but not sure what signs of damage to look for on motherboard, although, I don't see any obvious ones. I'd hate to order both parts if it's only one that needs to be replaced. I can say that I thought it might be battery cause there's absolutely no noise whatsoever when I connect the charging cable now

Anyone? I'll take all the suggestions I can get.

Hi @lizlot

The impurities in the liquid causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the tablet's operating design and could damage the components. The corrosion starts immediately and is ongoing until it is completely cleaned away

First do not try to charge or to turn on your tablet and then remove the battery as soon as possible from the tablet to minimize any further damage.

Then you need to dis-assemble the rest of the tablet and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available at electronics parts stores) to remove all traces of corrosion. If possible do not use "rubbing alcohol" as in some cases this is only 70% IPA or less, can contain additives and is not as effective. If you do have to use it check the label to verify the amount of IPA. The higher the percentage of IPA the better

Here is a link that describes the process. Electronics Water Damage

As always with electronics, especially surface mounted pcb be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the board. Remove the shields that may be covering some components as the liquid may have got in under there. The ends of any flex cables and their connectors need to be cleaned as well

Hopefully after you have done all this the tablet might possibly work correctly again.

If this process seems too daunting, take your tablet to a reputable, professional phone repair service, experienced in liquid damage repair and ask for a quote for a repair.

Hi @lizlot,

Before replacing any parts, try gently cleaning everything as described above (even if you can't see anything untoward) with a Q-Tip lightly moistened with IPA 99%+.

Sometimes liquids can leave conductive residues which aren't that noticeable.

Worth trying first.

Ensure that the battery is disconnected before doing anything and then do not make the board too wet or remove any components on the board by being too vigorous.

Cheers

Chlorine has killed the board. Should be white patches and the solder connections may look black instead of shiny.

I did notice a few white cotton candy looking patches on top of the motherboard and pretty dull underneath them. Is the motherboard the only part I should replace, i.e. any other components attached to motherboard that I should consider replacing as well?
