Sadly with TVs in general (not just Vizio), the cost of the bare LCD tends to total out the entire TV to the point you're usually better off selling it locally for parts, especially with the cost of freight shipping the replacement LCD as UPS can't be trusted. In most cases, the most cost effective option is to remove the remaining parts and sell them to offset the cost of replacement. However, if you can find an exact match with a good LCD with bad electronics, you can transplant your existing electronics to the dead TV, move your back over so the S/N matches externally and nobody will be none the wiser.

However, there is a catch: You DO NOT EVER want to reuse what it came with w/o verifying which part failed! If you do, it may fry your good parts!

While we want to encourage repair, TVs just stink to repair cost wise and are almost always better used for parts when it involves the screen. The issue is cost of parts, plus shipping (freight), plus your time all add up and with how cheap a descent replacement is which is what causes people to scrap them over smashed screens.

@nick if you are using specific terms like "BER" you want to explain those. Not everybody may know what you are referring to ;-)

@oldturkey03 Hopefully with RtR we can change the economics of TVs somewhat, but I'm not holding my breath for that anytime soon. We might be able to economically do boards and power supplies, but the LCD will probably still be the sour spot.

Not to mention with Vizio how they do everything they can do make it as hard as possible to fix their TVs, you pretty much have a situation where parts are expensive, plus the manufacturer would happily name and shame you for daring to fix their device.

@nick no we won't in this case. The prices will never go down. Right to Repair bills will be so diluted by making the cost of repair unreachable for the normal Joe.

@oldturkey03 Maybe for PCBs sure, but yeah... Panels will still be the kryptonite failure where it's just done for. I also have no faith in Vizio to not try to pull some stunt and play malicious compliance by making the part "available" at 100x what it should sell for to discourage repair.

Just like Dynabook/Toshiba, even with RtR I will not give them another chance. I own 2 of their TVs but one was a gift 10 years ago, and the other was from the other person who also got one.
