Ticking sound when in wash/rinse cycle

Top load washer model # WTW5005KW 0. Ticking/clicking sound occurs during the Wash/Rinse cycle. Could this be an agitator issue? I don’t hear the water jerking back and forth during these cycles. Spin and Drain cycle work just fine. Please help! Washer manual had no troubleshooting instructions.

Iesha Tristan where do you hear the Ticking/clicking sound? Your washer fills okay and drains okay?

por

@oldturkey03 Water fills and drains normally! I uploaded a video so you can hear the sound. At first I noticed it was during the rinse cycle so I stopped and drained the machine and then restarted. Then the sound started mid way through the wash cycle. We found a penny stuck between the crack of the agitator and bin and we removed it and the sound isn’t as loud as before. When I say loud I mean loud! This video was after the penny was removed and like I said the sound toned down but still present.

Iesha Tristan thank you for the video. It sounds like the agitator is supposed to move but it does not. I wonder if it is caused by wore out splines on the wash plate. I'll check to see if I can get a video or even the service manual.

Hi,

If the machine is not agitating but spinning OK, (is it spinning normally or only slowly?) check if the drive hub and the drive pulley are both OK.

The supplier linked is only to show the location of the parts. If either part is faulty, search online using the manufacturer's part number for the part as shown in the link(s) to get results for suppliers that suit you best.

Spinning great. Just in the wash/rinse cycle. I already replaced the agitator.

@tammycamp

The agitator is not the drive hub or the pulley.

It is connected to them though

It is the motor belt skipping

Iesha Tristan check the wash plate for worn splines. Use something like this video to work on it. Post some images of the plate/spline once you have it out.

We had the same issue and we bought a new agitator kit and replaced it but that didn't fix the issue. We ended up just buying a new washing machine.
