Connection of keyboard only to another computer

The battery of my Asus T100ta died completely. There is no way to charge it again or to turn it on even when it is plugged in. As the keyboard dock also served as a storage unit, there are some things I would like to get back from it.

Is there a way to connect only the dock to another computer via a USB port to recollect the data from it?

Hi @me746 ,

According to this supplier the laptop has a 2.5” sata HDD installed, which I assume is in the keyboard, the tablet part having non removable eMMC storage.

Perhaps it would be easier to remove the HDD from the keyboard and connect it to a PC via a suitable USB or sata adapter, (supplier example only to show types of adapters available).

I realize that the video I linked is for a T100 and not a T100TA but hopefully it is similar in concept to remove the HDD from the keyboard

Thank you, yes I have thought of that.

The keyboard is very similar, if not the same, so of course it is a good possibility.

I was actually wondering if the connection of the whole keyboard is possible through some kind of cable (with a USB end) so it could be used on another tablet or a computer.

Maybe I'm hoping too far and removing the HDD would be better.

You would have to know the pinout connections of the docking connector between the keyboard and the tablet so as to know how to access the HDD in the keyboard with an appropriately wired adapter cable etc.

For this you would need the schematics (I can't find any for the laptop) and then also find (or make) the adapter to suit etc.

It is much simpler to remove the HDD as after that it is straight forward how to connect to it and access the data as this is often done when removing HDDs from dead laptops to access the data
