This is not the first time this has come up; I’ve covered it before. Back in school, I was able to grab printer IP addresses, bypass the web filter and make a deal with the school administrators because they were tired of fighting me, so I'm not new to this game; if there was a way, I'd probably have found a way to exploit the BIOS (Coreboot) and S/N encoding to remove it, or "block" it from being manageable, much like how old school Computrace is a one way switch.
Hint: The deal was very, very good; the sysadmin was furious at me for getting it :-). I no longer annoy sysadmins for fun; I use the experience as leverage to get things done and leverage to run managed switches like HPE, Aruba and Cisco. See the answer for my take on this: My chromebook has an admin on it, how do I remove it?.
THE BYPASSES DO NOT WORK!!! The admin tie cannot be removed without having the Chromebook’s S/N removed from the organization’s system, and a powerwash.

The Chromebook remote management is tied to the device serial number, so you need to replace the board or contact the company who put the management on to remove it otherwise it will always be there until someone does it or replaces the board. In addition to that, ALL post “CR-48” Chromebooks are patched against the CLI serial number swap; in order to change the serial number, you need to know how to rework the motherboard with a new BIOS chip with a new S/N or reprogram the old one (hex knowledge required). In addition to that, some of them encrypt or protect it in such a way you can’t practically change it, or it wipes the chip if you try.

ahaha that first part happened to me too. now I help them make it harder to do that and am doing something like an internship. Of course, it was my own laptop. good luck trying to do that with a school issued device.

@some_aspy Yep. Then they wonder why it's harder and then realize it's the generation who cut the deals and got it done who know what doesn't work.

I haven't tried to reprogram the EEPROM on a post CR-48 since you're risking the entire machine when you can usually resolve it by contacting the admin who did it.

if the school provided you with the laptop you should NOT try to wipe it or remove their configuration.

Don't bother trying to use common sense with the people who want to try - they don't listen. They don't always listen to the technical version of why either. Yes, I know it may seem like I'm encouraging them to try by saying I got it done to outsiders, but I mention it to put my response into context and back it up with experience.

The kind of remote management we have today isn't the kind I defeated in high school.
