Why is my external speaker not working?

External rear speaker just died while everything else seems working fine (earpiece, mic, 3.5" audio jack), tried hard resetting the phone a couple of times to check if it was a s/w issue but still not working, i guess its h/w related, please help..

Solução escolhida

If you take apart the phone, the external speaker has no wire connection to the motherboard... It has two little pads that push against each other but are not actually connected with a wire. So when you twist the phone you are pushing these pads together to make a connection... this is a really really really poor design...

Grab the phone by the top and bottom and twist it as you are trying to play sound through the external speaker. Makes mine work everytime. These phones are **$$. This is my second one with the same problem. I have to bend it to make it charge too. Garbage.

I stumbled across this looking for a fix and thought that twisting it was a joke. I gave it a try and it worked. Must be an internal loose connection.

por

yeah loose connection. twist it and it works i found the "earth" (for a better word, im a diesel mechanic lol) connects through the back of the phone. i found i tightened up the screws and all good, temp fix was to fold a small piece of paper and put just below the sim card and refitt the cover to the back of the phone,ALL FIXED UP

If you press back side of phone you will find your speaker working properly

So for temp. Solution just open your back cover set small piece of paper exactly to the location where u pressed and again fix the back cover the problem is solved for temp. But for long lasting solution we have to get it repaired !!

I actually found a work around using two small pieces of foil paper to contact the speaker terminals and it worked.

I went to the local ATT store and they said I had to upgrade which I did not want to do at this time, so I came home and read this post and to my delight it worked.I installed a medium guitar pick at the base of the sim card and closed it back up and it works like new.

I read either here or on another forum that someone "twisted" their phone and that made it work. After buying a phone repair kit to try to locate the speaker myself proved unsuccessful, I tried "twisting" my phone and it actually worked!

Here's what I did: I put one hand on the bottom half of the phone and one hand on the top half of the phone with both palms flat on the screen. I twisted the top half towards me and the bottom half away from me gently while I had the radio on and that made it work!

I know it's retarded that something so simple should fix a phone and means it's a cheap quality phone. But it worked and it was free!

As mentioned by other's i had this problem with my phone,

Removing the back panel and applying a little pressure to the back makes it work, but sometime the problem reoccures and i fix it again in the same way.

Well, this solution is indeed awesome, I had no hope of this kind of solution working, but it did :-)

Put one hand on top part of the phone and the other on the below part and slowly twist it, the sound does come back :-)

Motorola Moto E. No sound from the loudspeaker, no ringing, alarm or media. Tried many software fixes with no result. Decided to try the hardware approach. Power the phone down and remove the outer back cover. Remove the 14 T5 screws then remove the back of the phone, disconnected the battery. The speaker connects to the main-board via contact pads and a pair of spring contacts which are mounted on the back of the phone. The speaker is attached to the main-board with adhesive and in my case the speaker had either been installed misaligned or it had shifted over time. The result was that the speaker pads and springs were no longer making contact. Simply lift the speaker, align the two pairs of contact pads and press the speaker back onto the main-board. Then reassemble the phone and all is well again. There are YouTube videos on how to disassemble/reassemble the Moto E. (MotherM)

Worked for same problem with Moto G 3 (2015). A slight twist to the phone corrected the problem, and then I tightened the few hex screws on the back, just for "fun" (probably not enough to make any difference). Not very reassuring, however. Makes you wonder how many other connections critical to other functions on the phone could give way just as easily. Also makes me suspicious that many other phones, even expensive ones, incorporate similar cost-cutting hardware compromises.

If it still works for music or video, remember that it is not designed to work for certain functions, such as the speakerphone. Otherwise you could try the gentle bend fix described above.

Hii..

I had this issue with my moto g 3 after i got the usb charging flex changed. No sound from phone speaker.

I went through some answers here.Tried to press just above the usb flex cover after opening back plastic cover of the phone and the sound is working. Relieved.. i guess the speaker circuit is near that and it gets loose.. happy that its working.. temperory have added a piece of paper for extra pressure inside the cover... Hope it helps... :)

Saved a dad’s reputation!

Once I verified that David Vignes diagnosis above was indeed my problem, I first tried putting a piece of styrofoam between the outer cover and the inside. This worked for a bit but then the styrofoam compressed after a few hours and it quit working.

So I went back in and put a bead of solder on each side of the little brass plate that makes the connection. That added enough width for the connection to be made once I screwed the cover back on.

I hope this helps someone as it helped me! Because my daughter was kind but rather disappointed when I offered to change her battery and ended with a phone with no sound! This solution helped me regain my status as her dad who could fix anything! She is an adult so it is a rather flimsy status! Phew!!!

Bending the metal tabs on the motherboard upward a bit and pressing the battery into place (curves a little) and pushing battery foil out of the way of screw areas before reassembling on a Moto X G2 worked for me. Thanks for all the tips above!! The twist / press test proved that the speaker was still working and it was a contact problem. Son very happy with this father's repairs after initial unpleasant discovery that speakers no longer worked after battery replacement.
