My keyboard backlight controls do not work.
I am trying to turn on the keyboard backlight with fn+f4, or at least trying to get the popup that says brightness down with fn+f3. All of the keys work, just not when used together. I have tried updating to the latest ATK package, uninstalled and reinstalled the keyboard drivers, and I’ve pretty much exhausted my technical knowledge.
Edit: This is after a hard drive replacement with an SSD.
Esta é uma boa pergunta?
Hi,
Have the keyboard backlights ever worked in your laptop?
Just wondering as there is no mention of this feature in the user manual which is from this webpage.
It is also strange that both F3 and F4 rate no mention at all in the manual. They are both missing from the function key list on p.34

This used to be my sister's laptop, I replaced the broken drive today and was trying to get it setup. She doesn't know, but the Best Buy listing says it has a backlit keyboard, and the keys are marked with a backlight up/down icon, the same as my Q504UAK (the same as the Q304UAK, but with a numpad and bigger screen). I believe I remember the backlight working, but I'm not sure. I read the manual and there is no mention which I thought was strange but it wouldn't make sense to have the keys with no function...

Hi @Gabriel Mascarenas
Check for a hcontrol.exe file This controls the hot key functions
usually it is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ATK Package\ATK Hotkey
Run the program and check if the backlights work when operating the keys
If still no good then I'm not so sure about having keys without a function.
They would use a keyboard that they already have in other laptops and not provide the functions to certain keys rather than producing a new keyboard especially for it. The manual seems to indicate that this is the case.
Given what you have tried about the only thing left if it does have backlights is that it is a hardware fault associated with the lights themselves rather than the keys as I think from memory that there are no other indications or screen notifications etc when operating the backlight keys, only that the lights change

I was working on the hardware when I installed a new SSD to replace the faulty hard drive, and this is my first physical home repair. It is possible I messed something up there. As for running hcontrol.exe I've tried that and had no luck. It also doesn't show up in the Windows Mobility Management window either.

@Gabriel Mascarenas
It's probably best that you recheck what you did.
Just verifying that you did disconnect the battery before doing anything else inside the laptop?
