Unable to Activate iPhone X after smashing the back

I fell on the back of my iPhone X right on the area where my sim card is located. After the fall I lost service and a triangle with a exclamation point appeared where my carrier should be. The phone continued to work like an iPod touch until i tried to restore it, now it I get stuck after connecting to wi-fi saying “Unable to Activate; An update is required to active your iPhone.” I’m pretty sure I have damaged the sim connector I want to know if there is any way to get my phone working as a iPod or replace the sim connector.

You may have damaged the logic board. You could try opening the device to see if there is any visible damage but doing so will void any warranty you may still have. Apple will only offer to replace the device. If the damage is only antenna or housing related can be looked at by a regular shop If the damage is indeed at the board level, then you will need to find a shop that does micro-soldering repairs.

I have the exact same issue. I checked the logic board but no visible damage on it. I cant believe we are the only two with this issue. Any one else have a fix?

I just got an ipX into my shop today - the owner has had the display changed on vacation, and after that, the icon appeared.. I didn't get around to try and solve it yet - but I know for a fact that Apple service providers are instructed to exchange the screens if they have connectivity issues (GSM, GPS) to try and solve it.

My second guess, is that they’ve messed up a soldering on the board itself - and I'll try to reball it and see if it works - it's been known to be the solution to quite a few different repairs on iP’s over the years..

Either way, I'll let you know if something changes tomorrow after I've been trough it..:D
